Tap and go with your card
The classic Bancontact card is still a favourite for a reason. Everyone has one and it’s reliable and accepted almost everywhere.
- Contactless payments for speed: for amounts up to €50, you simply hold your card near the terminal. Usually there is no need to enter your PIN, so you can be on your way in an instant.
- Perfect for small amounts: you can use your card for even the smallest purchases, like a pack of gum or a piece of fruit, meaning you never have to worry about carrying around change.
- Secure larger purchases: for any amount over 50€, you can still tap your card, but you will be asked to enter your secret pin to confirm the transaction.
The power of mobile payments
If you prefer to travel light, your smartphone is all you need. Using the Bancontact Pay app or your own bank app, you can settle your bill with a simple scan.
- Scan a QR code: look for the QR code with the Bancontact Pay logo at the counter or on the cash register screen. Scan it, insert or check the amount, and confirm. It’s as simple as that.
- All your loyalty cards in the Bancontact Pay app: you can store your favourite loyalty cards directly in the Bancontact Pay app. Show them at the shop’s checkout to collect points or enjoy discounts without ever needing to carry plastic cards again.
Pay with a flick of your wrist
By linking your Bancontact card to Apple Pay, you can easily pay using your iPhone or Apple Watch. Whether you use your phone or your watch, a flick of the wrist is all it takes to pay at the terminal. It is the ideal hands-free solution for when you’re on the move.
Belfius customers can already use their Bancontact card with Apple Pay. We’re working with other banks so more people in Belgium can enjoy it soon.
Safe and secure in every shop
Security is built into every layer of the Bancontact experience. We use advanced technology to ensure that your money and personal details are always protected while you shop.
- Every time you pay, your information is protected by strong encryption. This means that sensitive data is turned into a secure code that cannot be read by anyone else.
- To protect your account, there is a cumulative limit for contactless card payments. Once you have spent a total of 100€ without a pin, the terminal will ask for your code just to confirm it is really you.
- When paying via your phone, you are protected by strong customer authentication (SCA). This requires a unique action from you – like a pin or biometrics – to prove you are the authorised user.
- If your card or phone is lost or stolen, you can block your card by calling Card Stop (+32 078 170 170) which is available 24/7. This will give you peace of mind and prevent any unauthorised use of your funds.
