Payconiq product to be discontinued in 2026 – but the app and commercial solutions will remain in use
On this page, you will find everything you need to know about the changes coming to Payconiq and, to the extent possible, an answer to your questions.
In Belgium, Payconiq has become the market reference for fast and secure mobile payments, whether between friends or in stores. The Payconiq payment solution is very popular among merchants, with consumers required simply to scan the merchant's QR code – on a sticker, on the cash register or an invoice, online, on the payment terminal or on the merchant's smartphone.
In 2024, European company EPI (European Payments Initiative) launched Wero: a pan-European payment solution that enables payments between friends and, in time, in stores and online. Wero is currently available for payments between friends through banking apps from Belfius, BNP Paribas Fortis, ING Belgium and KBC.
As a major player in mobile payments in Belgium, we believe it is important to evolve with the latest innovations, making them as accessible as possible for all. That is why we decided to join forces with EPI.
Bancontact will retain its place as a strong local, ever-innovating brand and product – both in-store and online, as well as for payments between friends.
How Payconiq is evolving
As a result, the Payconiq payment platform transitions to a Bancontact and Wero payment platform. This means that Payconiq payments are replaced by Bancontact and Wero payments.
Payconiq by Bancontact is the 100% Belgian app for all mobile payments, now and into the future. The Payconiq by Bancontact app is and will remain accessible to anyone with a Belgian bank account, with customers at 19 different banks able to access the Payconiq by Bancontact app. From March 2026, the app will be called Bancontact Pay.
From March 2026, the Payconiq brand will cease to exist and be replaced by the new Bancontact universe.
The new Bancontact universe
In March 2026, Bancontact Payconiq Company will be renamed Bancontact Company. Our brands are evolving, but our promise remains the same. All of the company's brands and activities will be brought under the Bancontact umbrella. Our core offering and services will remain unchanged, but the branding will be updated.
For Belgian consumers, this change will provide greater clarity, both online and in shops. The Payconiq by Bancontact app will become Bancontact Pay. The app and its functionalities will remain the same, only the name and colours will change.
For online payments, three new brands will appear under the Bancontact umbrella, which should ensure a simpler and clearer payment experience:
- Bancontact Pay: for mobile payments via the bank app or the Bancontact Pay app (the current Payconiq by Bancontact app).
- Bancontact Card: for online payments with a Bancontact debit card via a card reader.
- Bancontact One Click: for one-click payments where the consumer has previously shared their payment card details with the merchant (e.g. for recurring payments such as subscriptions).
Payconiq merchants will find their specific tools under one name, namely Bancontact Pro.

As always, ease of use, security and accessibility remain our top priorities for the Payconiq by Bancontact app and its users. That is why we are committed each and every day to guaranteeing that the app meets these priorities and why we are constantly refining Payconiq by Bancontact, from its functionality and speed to its design and ease of use.
From March 2026, the Payconiq by Bancontact app will become Bancontact Pay. This means that the trusted payment app will continue to exist, but will be given a new name.
How will I be affected by this change?
As stated earlier, we remain committed to making the Payconiq by Bancontact app as user-friendly, safe and accessible as possible. In the summer of 2025, the app was updated with a brand-new design – which complies with the European Accessibility Act and overall makes mobile payments even easier than before. More information on the updated app can be found here.
Since December 2025, Payconiq has also disappeared from the Payconiq by Bancontact app. From now on, all payments and features in the app will be handled exclusively via Bancontact. This change has a minimal impact on the use of the app: creating and scanning QR codes between friends, scanning QR codes in physical or online stores, receiving invoices, registering your loyalty cards, purchasing transport tickets and creating Money pots are still available in the app.
Unfortunately, meal voucher payments are no longer be available via the app, and payments between friends via the contact list are temporarily unavailable. For payments between friends, you can still use the QR code in the app or a payment request for remote payments. You can read how this works on our website. Learn more about how it works here.
Any questions?
Will someone with a Belgian banking app still be able to scan a QR code created with the Payconiq by Bancontact app?
Yes. You can still create QR codes in the same way as before with your Payconiq by Bancontact app, and these codes can be scanned via Payconiq by Bancontact or with one of the bank apps listed below.
The reverse is also true: Payconiq by Bancontact users can still scan QR codes created with the bank apps listed below.
Who can I turn to for questions?
For all your questions about the Payconiq by Bancontact app and about mobile payments in-store or online, please contact our Support team at support@payconiq.be as always.
For questions about mobile payments via your banking app, please contact your bank.
Can I use the Payconiq by Bancontact app to scan a Wero QR code in a bank app or in a shop?
Yes. For payments between friends, as a user of the Payconiq by Bancontact app, you can scan any QR code created with a Belgian banking app.
For in-store payments, you can continue to scan QR codes on stickers, cash registers, online, etc. with Bancontact.
Can I still make mobile payments online and in store?
Yes. The well-known QR payment codes in store continue to exist and can still be scanned with the Payconiq by Bancontact app and Belgian bank apps.
You can also still pay online with the Payconiq by Bancontact app or your bank app by selecting the Bancontact button on the merchant's payment page.
The Payconiq product has disappeared, but the trusted mobile payment solution for merchants remains. For merchants using a Payconiq sticker solution or Payconiq GO, their trusted Payconiq payment system has evolved into the new Bancontact and (in the future) Wero payment system.
All Payconiq payments have been replaced by Bancontact (and, in the future, Wero) payments via the existing QR code. Customers can continue to pay as before with their Payconiq by Bancontact app or their banking app.
From March 2026, Payconiq merchants will find their specific tools under one umbrella, namely Bancontact Pro.
What changes can my customers and I expect?
As part of the update to your payment system, you now have access to the renewed Merchant Portal. Here, you can easily view and manage your transactions, payment solutions, and business and billing details. You will find a guide on our website to help you get started.
Although you can still accept mobile payments via your updated payment platform, payments with meal vouchers via a QR code are no longer possible. However, this does not affect the acceptance of payments with meal voucher cards via a payment terminal.
From spring 2026 onwards, your payment solution will automatically support Wero payments, without any action on your part. Your customer scans the QR code and confirms the payment as usual; the payment app determines whether this is done via Bancontact or Wero. In the Merchant Portal, you can see which type of payment was made for each transaction.
In March 2026, the name of the specific tools you use in your business will change to Bancontact Pro:
- The current Payconiq GO app, which allows merchants to enter the amount to be paid themselves via their smartphone or tablet, will become the Bancontact Pro app.
- The Merchant Portal, which allows merchants to track their transactions and manage their merchant account, will also be renamed Bancontact Pro.
You will also receive new promotional material for your business, consisting of visual aids – including a sticker with a QR code and display material – to show that you accept Bancontact and Wero payments.
Any questions?
When will I be able to accept mobile Bancontact and Wero payments in my business?
The Payconiq payment system has now been discontinued, and all payment solutions have been migrated to the Bancontact and Wero payment system. This means that all Payconiq payments are now replaced by Bancontact payments.
From spring 2026, it will also be possible to receive Wero payments via your current payment solution. Wero payments will be accepted automatically via your system. We will provide you with further information about this in the course of 2026.
Can I still use the same sticker?
Yes. Your current Payconiq sticker will remain active, even now that your system has been transferred to the Bancontact and Wero payment system.
After the name change in 2026, you will receive a package from us containing new marketing material with the new name, including updated QR code stickers (your QR code itself will remain the same, but the design and name around it will look different).
Do I still have access to the Payconiq Merchant Portal?
Since the update to your system, you now have access to the revamped merchant portal: merchant-portal.bancontact.net. Here, you can easily view and manage your transactions, payment solutions, and business and billing details. You will find a guide on our website to help you get started.
Will the price remain the same?
Your trusted payment solution will be offered at the same price terms as today.
Can I choose when my payment platform will evolve?
Do you offer Payconiq via a Payconiq sticker solution, or Payconiq GO? Then the adaptation in your payment system will be carried out automatically by Bancontact Payconiq Company and you will not notice anything. You will be informed in time when this adjustment will take place.
Do you have a Payconiq integration in your payment solution? In other words, was your Payconiq payment solution provided by a supplier/integrator (or your own IT department) on your cash register, invoice or website? If so, an adjustment will need to be made to your payment system. If you do the integration yourself via an API key, you will receive more information from us about the action to take. If you are working through a third party for your Payconiq integration, please contact your integrator.
